our story

EDH Chicago began as a small, but motivated Commander (EDH) playgroup cracking six packs and slinging spells at Brainstorm Comics in Wicker Park. Our enthusiasm and passion rubbed off on more than a few new players and soon we had 15+ regulars.

After Brainstorm Comics closed, the group was able to stay together when Impossible Industries opened. The current Commander League was designed in July 2016, with a test implementation in September of that year. October 2016 was the beginning of the first season and along with it the debut of the Commander League Title Belt, a symbol of the challenging fun that the playgroup embodies.

Impossible Industries unfortunately closed in February 2017, but the Commander league survived, thanks to Near Mint Games.

Currently, the Title Belt is on hiatus as EDH Chicago tests other ways to promote great Commander play. We continue to strive to be the best Commander playgroup in Chicago, offering interactive and competitive games for players who don't take themselves too seriously.

As of March 2020, with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, EDH Chicago has been playing online via Spelltable, with hopes that LGS play will be back in 2022.
